Heart of Stone
Want to hear a new song?
This is one called “Heart of Stone”. It’s on the Neverlove album, which is coming out on September 30th.
I wrote this one when I was going through my divorce and it’s about how going through something as difficult as that has a way of hardening a person. I was definitely as hard as a rock there for a while. I’m a bit mushier now. But that experience definitely changed me in some ways that I’m sure are forever. I’ve learned a lot. Some of my priorities have changed. There are mistakes I made in the past that I’ll never make again. It’s still very difficult for me to see the failure of my marriage as a positive thing or something that was meant to be, but I do think I’m a better and wiser person now because of it.
What you’ll see here is a live performance of the song. This was recorded on a hot night a few weeks ago. You’ll notice right away that I’m sweating like a pig – that is, if you’re not distracted by the extraordinarily beautiful woman standing to my left in the video. That’s Francesca Anderson and she’s one of the most important people in the world to me. She really helped me through my tough time. She also sings on a few songs on the new album. Although she helped out with this particular performance, it’s another girl who sings on the album version of “Heart of Stone” – a very talented singer named Jessica Lee
Do yourself a favor and keep your eye on Francesca in the video. She’s a whole lot better looking than I am.
She’s as funny and talented as she is beautiful. She’s a quality follow, I promise!
So take a look at the video. I hope you like the song. And here are the lyrics, if you’d like to sing along:
Can’t break a heart of stone.
No, you’re only going to hurt yourself.
It’s all or none, I know.
Because I promise you that if it’s meant to be,
It’s up to me. Memories, I wont let them go.
I’m leaving here, alone.
Can’t break this heart of stone.
Heaviest words upon my spine. My mouth is broken, arms are bound.
Alarms are sounding. Harm’s around. Trouble comes. Charms abound.
Solitary, single. Phantom limbs that tingle.
A feeling in the air tonight and static in the signal.
I bite the dust. Smash the sky. Fight and cuss. Asking why.
My last chance, passing by. Time to kiss your ass goodbye.
Watch the clock. See the setting sun disappearing.
Lots of talk. She regretting none, but I’m not hearing.
Caught stealing. Revealing distraught feeling.
Got staring at the ceiling and wounds that are not healing.
Faking no abuses. Complication introduces
Mistaken, so it’s useless but making no excuses.
